A downloadable game for Windows

SPACEHIKER is a small VR tech demo made as a proof-of-concept for the use of the LEAP Motion as a means of immersive, physical movement in a completely 3D zero gravity environment.

SPACEHIKER is built for use with the Oculus Rift DK2 and Leap Motion.

Movement is quite possibly the largest hurdle for virtual reality. Our goal with this project was to confront this issue head-on, by using the LEAP to allow the user immersive, free movement in a 3D space.

Gameplay:

It is recommended to have lots of room around you while playing SPACEHIKER. Also, sit or stand the Oculus-recommended distance away from your DK2's tracker.

Use your hands to push yourself off of the spaceship's walls in order to reach the end destination. Rotate yourself by holding a hand to either the left or right side of the leap tracking area. And also, try not to let yourself drift away into space.

Recommended specs:

Oculus Rift DK2 and Leap Motion hand tracker

Windows 7+ (64x)

DK2 Runtime 0.7

Identical to Oculus's recommended system specs for the Consumer Version 1.

NOTE FROM DEVELOPER: Due to a very strange and unfortunate glitch, I was unable to apply the LEAP-recommended overlay effect to SPACEHIKER. I spent quite awhile troubleshooting this, but I ran out of time. I'd like to apologize for this, as I am well aware that this is an excellent and necessary feature.

Hello, my name is William Lawler and I'm with a company that has been working on developing technology to provide immersive haptic feedback using the Leap Motion to track people's hands. After trying your demo I am very interested in the idea of allowing for full movement controls using the leap motion tracking. I would very much be interested in working with you to integrate this concept into other games that utilize our feedback systems. If you'd be interested in that please send me a message. Thank you.

Hello,

I can't seem to find a way to send private messages on this site. If you'd like to reply in private, you can reply to our email "contact@25hd.net"

We are currently working on a large scale project, so we don't have too much time to devote to side projects. However, your proposal does sound interesting! We haven't worked with the LEAPMOTION for awhile, but they have made great strides as of late, so I'm open to exploring this idea.

Could you let me know more about your haptic solution, as well as the scale and scope of the project you'd like us to work on?

Thanks,

Matt @ 25HD
